American Home Products Corp. said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Effexor for the treatment of clinical depression. The drug is similar to Eli Lilly & Co.’s Prozac, Pfizer Inc.’s Zoloft and SmithKline Beecham’s Paxil.
