NHL ROUNDUP : Hasek Stops 39 Shots in Sabres’ Victory

Goaltender Dominik Hasek turned back 39 shots Friday night in leading Buffalo to a 4-1 victory over the New York Rangers at Buffalo, N.Y.
Hasek turned aside 21 shots in the second period alone, the most faced by a Sabre goaltender this season.
After a tight, hard-checking first period, the Sabres got the scoring started at 11:10 of the second when Donald Audette converted Brad May’s pass on the power play.
May added the second goal when he tucked in a rebound after Derek Plante’s slap shot had trickled by Healey.
Other Sabre goals were by Dale Hawerchuk and Yuri Khmylev, the latter an empty-netter.
Dallas 5, Chicago 2--Andy Moog stopped 30 of 32 shots and five Dallas players scored as the Stars ended the Blackhawks’ eight-game home winning streak.
The victory moved the Stars within one point of Central Division-leading Toronto.
Philadelphia 4, Boston 3--Mark Recchi scored the tying goal with 6:32 left and then set up Eric Lindros’ winner with 2:17 to go as the Flyers rallied from a 3-0 deficit for a victory over the Bruins in Minneapolis.
Only 10,855 fans showed up for the second of six neutral-site games to be played this season at Target Center.
Quebec 5, Pittsburgh 4--Claude Lapointe and Mats Sundin scored goals 1:41 apart in the second period to spur the Nordiques past the Penguins in Pittsburgh.
The Nordiques raised their season record against the division-leading Penguins to 3-0.
Pittsburgh lost for the second time against three ties in its last 11 home games.
Montreal 5, Calgary 2--Montreal goalie Les Kuntar, making his first start of the season, was tested by only 15 shots as the Canadiens defeated the Flames at Calgary.
Winnipeg 2, St. Louis 1--Teemu Selanne scored a goal and assisted on Keith Tkachuk’s winning tally as the Jets held on to beat the Blues in Winnipeg for their second consecutive victory.
San Jose 3, Vancouver 2--Todd Elik’s power-play goal snapped a third-period tie and Jaroslav Otevrel scored twice as the Sharks broke a nine-game winless streak and got their first-ever victory in nine games at Vancouver.
