Italy Sets Two-Day Vote to End Passover Dispute

ROME — The Italian government issued a decree Tuesday extending March 27 general elections to March 28 after Jews objected that they would have to vote on the first day of Passover, state television said.
The measure needs approval by Parliament, even though it has been dissolved.
The election date of Sunday, March 27, effectively disenfranchised many of Italy’s 30,000 Jewish voters because observant Jews do not travel, write or carry out any task defined as work by Jewish law at the start or end of Passover.
