Hughes to Sell Satellite to Malaysia: The Far East nation today is expected to buy its first telecommunications satellite from Hughes Aircraft Co. Terms were not disclosed, but the HS 376 satellite--to be built in El Segundo--typically costs between $50 million and $100 million. It will provide Malaysia with direct satellite-to-home television broadcast capabilities. Hughes in the past two years has sold 12 satellites that serve the Far East, which is Hughes’ fastest-growing market, said Steven D. Dorfman, president of the company’s telecommunications and space group.
