I would not disagree with those who say that maybe people want another trash dump in Ventura County. But the tactics of two of the signature gatherers I saw lead me to believe that there has been some distortion about the purpose of the Weldon Canyon petition drive.
I go in and out of the Oxnard post office daily and to my knowledge, the topic of a dump was never mentioned, only concerns about recycling. Then, in front of Walmart, I saw the same thing being done: One lady mentioned the dump, and the petition gatherer changed the subject to a recycling idea.
