Several Lunker Trout Escape Holiday Crunch

Most of the Alpers trout planted in Eastern Sierra waters before the July 4 weekend escaped the onslaught of holiday fishermen. That’s good news for future anglers, because the already large fish will grow even larger.

Among those that didn’t escape: a seven-pound five-ounce rainbow caught on a Panther Martin lure by Colter Taylor of Vista at Lake Sabrina above Bishop; a five-pounder caught by 5-year-old Brianne Codeus of Upland on a glob of Power Bait at Grant Lake on the June Loop and a 4-12 fish landed by Lloyd Scott of Palm Springs, on Power Bait at June Lake.
