NEWPORT BEACH : Bolsa Park Approval Cheered by Residents

A band of Newport Heights residents clapped and cheered last week as the City Council unanimously voted to spend $175,000 for a long-awaited neighborhood park.
Residents have been lobbying city officials for Bolsa Park for seven years. The vote means they should have it by next summer.
The half-acre park will be built on a section of Bolsa Avenue between between Old Newport Boulevard and Broad Street. The area is paved and still in use as a public street. The park will include a picnic table and a “tot lot” grassy play area for small children, benches and a water fountain, planner Scot Ferris said.
Outgoing Councilwoman Evelyn R. Hart was quick to move for approval of the mini-park, which is in her district.
“This will allow this long-awaited project to move forward . . . concurrently as the General Plan (revision) moves forward,” she said.
Also approved was priority status for a plan to acquire a property next to Begonia Park in Corona del Mar.
