Mission Produce Will Use Canadian Technology

Mission Produce Inc., based in Oxnard, has entered into an agreement to use a Canadian firm’s modified-atmosphere technology in packing and shipping Mission’s avocados.

The method, called Tamfresh, is owned by Pacific Asia Technologies Inc. of Vancouver, B.C.

Mission is expected to start using Tamfresh later this month. The system uses specially designed and sealed boxes. It is said to enable avocados to retain their freshness for three weeks without significant deterioration.

Commercial trials have been under way for several months, and the fruit was well received by retailers and food-service companies, Pacific reports.
