Homeowners Bear Landslide Risks

(Sharon A.) Ericson’s diatribe (“Anaheim Should Accept Liability,” Letters, Feb. 19) about the 1993 landslide disaster in Anaheim Hills, her second-guessing Anaheim’s situation in the Orange County financial disaster, and her personal attack on contributions made to the mayor all reek of a disgruntled loser in the last election.
Anaheim should not readily accept liability in the landslide disaster. The owners freely chose to purchase property in a hillside community where the risk of such a natural disaster in such an area should have been evident.
Although I have sympathy for those who have been affected, why should all the residents of Anaheim be liable?
Finally, the last I heard, Anaheim had elected a City Council who appear to be respected and qualified professionals. Anaheim also has a highly regarded city manager, city attorney and many other competent employees who are perfectly able to handle the challenges before them.
