Affirmative Action Gathering: Nearly 300 members from more than 15 minority and women business groups will meet Wednesday to talk about affirmative action and the California Civil Rights Initiative. The event, called a “Unity Meeting,” is held annually to promote racial harmony. It was first organized by the Asian American Business Assn. and the Black Business Assn. following the 1992 riots. This year’s meeting will focus on the initiative, which seeks to end government preference programs for women and minorities. Such programs are generally viewed by minority business owners as key to the growth of all minority businesses. The event begins at 6 p.m. at American Honda, 1919 Torrance Blvd., Torrance.
