Wednesday’s summer solstice marked the longest day of the year (14 hours and 26 minutes in Los Angeles). On this day the sun rises as far north of due east as it will during the year and travels high across the southern sky, setting in the northwest. The summer solstice is also the day of the earliest sunrise and lastest sunset, 5:42 a.m. and 8:08 p.m., respectively, in Los Angeles. Source: John Mosley, Griffith Observatory
