Motorist Killed, Passenger Hurt in 1-Car Crash South of Fillmore

A motorist was killed and his passenger injured Tuesday when their car went into a concrete culvert off California 23 north of Guiberson Road south of Fillmore, authorities said.
The driver, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Dan Rehart of the California Highway Patrol.
The passenger, Dolores Lomele, 26, of Fillmore, was taken to Simi Valley Hospital, where she was in stable condition with head injuries, hospital officials said.
Their car was heading north on the two-lane stretch of Chambersburg Road when the accident occurred, Rehart said. When the car spun into the culvert, it hit a 4 1/2-foot-high bridge that sheared off the top off the car, Rehart said.
The cause of the 4:16 p.m. accident is under investigation, authorities said.
