Supermarkets Plugging In: Florida-based coupon distributor Catalina Marketing said that Food 4 Less, Ralphs, Hughes, Safeway and Smith’s supermarkets will offer promotions, and possibly coupons, via a home page Catalina will operate on the Internet, beginning in January. The pilot program will take place in California. According to Catalina, consumers will be able to browse weekly specials, possibly learn about rebates, recipes or coupons, and copy the information onto paper with their home printer. Catalina is negotiating with food manufacturers over their participation in the on-line test.
