In the End, Music Lovers Are Cheated

Regarding “Dream Machines” (Aug. 22) and the increase in the number of home recording studios: The sad realities of TV and film production show continually decreasing music budgets (while overall production costs escalate), forcing more and more composers to turn to synthesizers and samplers recorded at home instead of live musicians in a professional facility.

If music, no matter the quality, can be had cheaply, producers are satisfied. In the end, musicians lose work, the composers’ music suffers and, ultimately, the audience is cheated.
