Times Staff and Wire Reports

McDonnell Says No Partner Sought: McDonnell Douglas Corp. said it has no plans to seek an equity partner for its Long Beach-based Douglas Aircraft Co. commercial jetliner division. The statement was made in response to a published report that said McDonnell was in talks with China to form a partnership that would launch McDonnell’s proposed 100-seat MD-95 jetliner. McDonnell, in a bid to secure enough orders to launch production of the aircraft, is marketing the plane to Atlanta-based ValuJet Airlines, among others. But ValuJet says it is still determining which, if any, jets it plans to buy.
