2 Injured as Car Rams Into House

SUNLAND — A 23-year-old motorist suffered a possible broken neck and massive head injuries after hitting a stop sign and crashing through the wall of a house early Saturday morning, police said.
Amparo Haley of Tujunga was driving too fast on Foothill Boulevard as she approached a curve at Greenburn Avenue, and lost control of her car and crashed, said Valley Traffic Officer Edward Waschak.
A passenger in the car, Salvador Martinez of Sun Valley, suffered a broken leg and abrasions, and was taken to Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar, the officer said.
The accident, which occurred about 12:40 a.m., left a hole in the house, but no one inside was injured, police said.
Haley was listed in critical condition in the Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit at County-USC Medical Center, said hospital spokesman Harvey Kern.
Haley was not wearing a seat belt, but it is not known whether Martinez was, police said.
