Safety Components International Inc.: The Costa Mesa manufacturer of automotive air bags and supplier of ordnance and other defense products reported that net income for the fiscal year ended March 31 rose to $4.9 million, or 99 cents a share, more than double the $2.1 million, or 53 cents a share, recorded for the prior year. Sales rose 83% to $94.9 million, from $51.8 million. Fourth-quarter net income gained 36% to $1.2 million, or 24 cents a share, from $901,000, or 21 cents a share, for the same quarter in the previous fiscal year. Sales rose 23%, to $21.5 million, from $17.5 million.
