A member of the House Republican leadership admitted he distributed campaign checks from a tobacco political action committee on the House floor, but said he will never do it again. Republican Conference Chairman John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) said he stopped handing out the checks after being questioned about the practice by two freshmen members of the House. “I thought, ‘Yeah, I can imagine why somebody would be upset. It sure doesn’t look good,’ ” said Boehner, adding that the floor was a convenient place to find colleagues.
