Kyoto Kudos

In Tours for the Thinking Person, Linda Estrin wrote about a 12-day walking tour in Kyoto, Japan, with Steve Beimel (“Garden Gambols,” Jan. 9, 1994). It was the most interesting travel experience I’ve ever had. What made it unusual was the knowledgeable voice of Steve Beimel in my ear. As we walked, Steve spoke through a transmitter, and we listened through earphones. I’ve studied Asian literature and culture for 40 years, but it came alive with Steve.
