VIRGINIA : North Urges GOP to Oust Sen. Warner

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Oliver L. North, who blames his 1994 U.S. Senate defeat on opposition from Sen. John W. Warner (R-Va.), urged Republicans to oust Warner in a June 11 GOP primary. North told delegates to the Republican state convention in Salem, Va., to vote for challenger James C. Miller III, a former Reagan administration budget director who lost the Senate nomination to North two years ago. North, the retired Marine lieutenant colonel who was a key figure in the Iran-Contra scandal, said he would not run as an independent if Warner wins the primary.
