Toddler Shot in Face Dies; Police Investigation Continues

A 2-year-old girl who was shot in the face Wednesday afternoon died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, police said Thursday.
Authorities identified the child as Leticia Renteria.
The girl was at home in a Mid-City area apartment with her father, grandmother and 4-year-old cousin at the time of the shooting. It was still unclear Thursday who was holding the gun and how it went off.
Police believe the shooting was accidental but the death is being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department’s abused child unit.
