Stalking the Gannet

We enjoyed the picture of the New Zealand gannets by Jim Vanderaa (“My Best Shot,” June 9). There are at least two places that the gannets nest on the New Zealand mainland. In January, we photographed a colony of these lovely birds on the Muriwai Beach about 20 miles northwest of Auckland. And getting there didn’t require a five-mile walk at low tide.
