* Mary Matalin (Opinion, Sept. 15) urges congressional Republicans to abandon all attempts at compromise with President Clinton and return to their goal of pushing “contract with America” legislation. But it’s not old news that the majority of Americans deride, or are at least skeptical of, such legislation. So if Republicans follow Matalin’s advice, Bob Dole’s standing in the polls will further erode, along with Republican chances for winning congressional elections.
Either Matalin is not the brilliant campaign strategist she is rumored to be or she’s a closet Democrat!
