Sinatra Remains in Hospital; Reports on Condition Vary

Frank Sinatra remained hospitalized Tuesday amid conflicting reports that variously had the 80-year-old entertainer suffering from a pinched nerve, pneumonia or a bad heart.

Spokesmen at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on the Westside declined comment on Sinatra’s condition at the singer’s request, as did Susan Reynolds, his publicist.

The hospital has received several dozen flower displays and a few hundred letters. A handful of well-wishers were turned away from the lobby, the spokesman said.

Officially, Reynolds and others had reported that Sinatra entered the hospital Friday afternoon to be treated for a pinched nerve. He was to have been released in a couple of days, but doctors extended his stay without explanation.

That development was followed by a local television news report that cited an unnamed source in reporting that a cardiologist had been attending Sinatra, and an item in Daily Variety that quoted Sinatra’s daughter, Nancy, saying that he was suffering from slight pneumonia.
