Bah, Humbug!

Regarding “A Victorian Holiday” (Dec. 15): The so-called ambience of England at Christmastime is largely a feeling of nostalgia and is associated with family and friends. Without these associations, England can be as lonely as the U.S at Christmastime--perhaps even more so, as generally English cities are not flush with entertainment centers as in the U.S.

If one yearns for a chilly, piney, snowy clime at Christmas, one is much more likely to find this in the Sierras than Lincoln, England. With the money that is saved, thousands of dollars, one can hire a chorus to yodel at one’s door.
