Strong Quake Rocks Mexico; No One Hurt

MEXICO CITY — A powerful earthquake shook central Mexico and the capital Saturday, swaying tall buildings and causing panic among some residents. There were no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage.
The 45-second quake struck at 2:30 p.m. and prompted many people in downtown Mexico City to rush from buildings and movie theaters.
The National Autonomous University’s Geophysical Observatory said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 7.3, while the U.S. earthquake center in Golden, Colo., reported a reading of 6.8. The temblor was centered in the Pacific Ocean off Michoacan state, about 275 miles northwest of Mexico City.
