Penguins’ Lalime Is Still Hot

Eddie Johnston can appreciate it because he used to be a goaltender, and he understands it enough to keep sending Patrick Lalime onto the ice.

“Something like this only happens a couple of times in a lifetime, for a goaltender to get on a roll like this,” said Johnston, after his Penguins got another game of superlative goaltending by Lalime in a 3-1 victory over Dallas on Tuesday night at Pittsburgh.

Lalime turned back 30 Stars’ shots to run his rookie record to 12-0-2. Only Montreal’s Ken Dryden (12-0-2 in 1970-71) and Boston’s Ross Brooks (11-0-3 in 1972-73) have matched 14-game unbeaten marks as rookies.

Philadelphia 3, Montreal 2--Paul Coffey, who had missed five games because of a concussion, scored with 44 seconds to play to give the Flyers the win at Philadelphia.

New Jersey 4, Boston 2--Brian Rolston and Randy McKay scored in a 1:19 span of the second period for the Devils, who ended a season-high four-game winless streak with a win at East Rutherford, N.J.

Florida 4, Vancouver 4--Alexander Mogilny’s goal 8:43 into the third period lifted the Canucks into a tie at Vancouver.
