Now what? Irvine was hoping to salvage the season, and possibly Coach Rod Baker’s job, by qualifying for the conference tournament. Thursday’s 84-69 loss to Fullerton pretty much dashed those hopes. “It doesn’t matter if we split our last six games, go 3-3, it still won’t amount to much,” Baker said before the Fullerton loss. Irvine starting forward Brian Johnson won’t play today because he’s in Chicago attending his grandmother’s funeral.
