The sale of the New York Islanders to John Spano has been approved by the NHL’s executive committee, and the league’s Board of Governors is expected to approve it by fax vote. Spano, a 32-year-old Dallas businessman, purchased the team earlier this season for $164 million from John Pickett, who will retain 1% ownership.
