Vans Is Off, Running in Its 3rd-Quarter Report

Vans Inc. said net income for the third fiscal quarter more than doubled as sales increased 41%.

The manufacturer and retailer of footwear and apparel said net income for the three months ended March 1 totaled $2.2 million, or 16 cents a share, up from $901,000, or 9 cents a share, for the prior-year period. Sales increased to $39.1 million from $27.9 million. Net income for the nine months rose to $7.7 million, or 56 cents a share, from $2.6 million, or 26 cents a share, for the corresponding three quarters a year ago. Sales were up 41% to $120.2 million from $85.4 million.
