Black Farmers Protest at USDA

WASHINGTON — Several hundred black farmers called for an end Wednesday to Agriculture Department practices they say threaten black farms.
John W. Boyd Jr., president of the National Black Farmers Assn., which sponsored a rally outside USDA, said black farmers are losing 9,000 acres a week.
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles) told farmers packed into a hearing room in the afternoon that black farmers are beset by discrimination and lack of access to USDA loans.
