Cold Creek Canyon Preserve

The 750-acre private mountain haven offers solitude and 13 waterfalls, one of which splashes into a fern-shaded and orchid-lined pool that flows over a spillway of travertine--a deposit built up by minerals in the water--to create a grotto-like effect. No more than 25 people a day are permitted inside the preserve off Stunt Road. Reservations are required. (818) 346-9675.
