Jonathan Power (“Why Is the European Union Loath to Admit Turkey” Commentary, May 19) is critical of the EU for resistance to the admission of Turkey.
Not only does Turkey have the bad record of violation of rights of its minorities admitted in the article, it has the history of Armenian genocides of World War I and before that it officially denies. It continues military occupation of Cyprus in violation of U.N. security resolutions. It has its own tradition, which differs from the Western tradition common to the countries of the EU.
