GOP Altered Papers, Democrats Charge

Senate Democrats accused the Republican Party of sending incomplete documents in response to a subpoena from the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, the panel investigating campaign finance abuses. Republican National Committee spokeswoman Mary Crawford said nothing relevant to the probe was deleted. But Democratic committee staff members estimated that material had been eliminated from 25% of the documents. The Senate panel is trying to determine whether Republicans used other groups to skirt contribution limits.
