Prairie Land Now a National Preserve

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in the scenic Flint Hills became the nation’s newest national park with a dedication that included tours, speeches, music and talk about the park’s future. The park, which includes 10,894 acres of prairie, was created by the nonprofit National Park Trust’s purchase of the Z Bar Ranch near Strong City in central Kansas. Tallgrass prairie once stretched from Ohio to the Rocky Mountains and from Canada to Texas.
