Irwindale-based H.F. Ahmanson & Co. said it will close 25 California branches after it acquires Coast Savings Financial Inc. to eliminate overlapping operations and cut costs. The Thrift said the closures will take place during the first quarter of 1998 and are the first phase of a projected 50 to 55 branch shutdowns.
