Marauders Lose on Road

Despite Talaya McDaniel and Kristin Phillips each scoring 21 points, Antelope Valley lost to Irvine Valley, 85-58, in a nonconference women’s basketball game in Irvine on Wednesday.
McDaniel was five of eight from the field and 11 of 14 from the free-throw line. Phillips was seven of 18 from the field.
Irvine Valley outscored Antelope Valley, 46-26, in the first half. The Marauders (2-5) were also outshot, 50% to 34.6%, in the half.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Bakersfield 81, Antelope Valley 70--Four players scoring in double figures for the host Marauders (9-3) could not negate the efforts of Brandon Kurtz in a nonconference game.
Kurtz hit 11 of 12 shots and had 26 points and eight rebounds for the Renegades (9-0).
Ziaire Williams and Carlos Wheeler each scored 14 points for Antelope Valley, with Williams grabbing seven rebounds. John Burrell scored 13 points.
