4 Armed Intruders Posing as Police Officers Rob Family

NORTH HOLLYWOOD — Four men impersonating police officers robbed a family at gunpoint, police reported Thursday.
After knocking on an apartment door in the 11800 block of Hamlin Street about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and identifying themselves as police officers, the men drew semiautomatic pistols and ordered four adult residents and two children to the floor, said Los Angeles police spokeswoman Angela Grant.
The men--wearing police-type jackets and badges--bound the victims and then ransacked the apartment, taking a small amount of cash, jewelry and a handgun.
Police Det. Ray Hernandez called the robbery “systematic” and “professional.”
The victims were not physically harmed in Wednesday’s incident, Hernandez said. The LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Unit is investigating the case, and possible connections to other recent robberies involving police impersonators.
Two weeks ago, a married couple were robbed in their home at gunpoint by two men posing as police officers. The robbers stole $1,000 in cash and a laptop computer.
Burbank police officials said they also have been on the lookout for police impersonators since the arrest about three months ago of an armed motorist driving a police-style car equipped with spotlights and yellow lights.
The man, booked for possession of a loaded firearm in the car, was probably a private investigator, Burbank officials said.
