Western Bancorp’s Wagner Named as Chief Executive

Western Bancorp named President Matthew P. Wagner to the additional position of chief executive. Wagner succeeds Hugh S. Smith Jr., who remains chairman. The Newport Beach holding company also said Wednesday that shareholders of both Western Bancorp and Santa Monica Bank approved the merger of the two companies. The merger also received regulatory approval.
