Russian Climber Missing on Peak

From Times Wire Reports

A search continued for noted Russian mountain climber Anatoli Boukreev, who was feared to have died on 26,500-foot Mt. Annapurna after an avalanche swept him away Christmas Day, the Tourism Ministry said. Boukreev, 39, was a subject of the best-selling book “Into Thin Air,” in which author and fellow climber Jon Krakauer criticized his role in a 1996 expedition on Mt. Everest that cost eight climbers’ lives. Krakauer accused Boukreev, who was guiding climbers, of compromising clients’ safety but credited him with saving two climbers.
