Coastal Agency Helps Fund Renovation of Pier

The Coastal Conservancy, a state agency that protects and improves coastal resources, has allocated $200,000 to assist in the renovation of the Hermosa Beach Pier.
The 1,200-foot pier, constructed in 1965, will undergo a $4.5-million face-lift this fall. Plans call for seismic retrofitting, a redesign and new benches, railings and lighting. The conservancy funds will help with this renovation.
The project is being funded by Proposition A funds, a 1992 voter-approved bond initiative, the Los Angeles County Lifeguards, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the city of Hermosa Beach. The Coastal Conservancy’s contribution will fill a $200,000 funding gap.
“The renovated pier will be a magnificent addition to the Hermosa Beach waterfront,” said Coastal Conservancy Chair Robert Kirkwood.
