Activist Physician Gets Chapman Award

Anti-nuclear activist Helen Caldicott will receive the Chapman University’s highest service award Tuesday for her environmental efforts.
Chapman dignitaries will present the Albert Schweitzer Award of Excellence to Caldicott, who will then discuss the future of Earth.
Caldicott, a physician who has written four books on the threats inherent in the nuclear age, is perhaps best known for founding Physicians for Social Responsibility.
Winner of an Academy Award for her 1983 documentary titled “If You Love This Planet,” Caldicott has been awarded the Gandhi Peace Prize and the Margaret Mead Award. She was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The event is free and open to the public. It begins at 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall’s Chapman Auditorium, 333 N. Glassell St. No reservations are required.
