Student Gets Florida Vacation for a Song

Hold the relish.

The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile--a hot dog-shaped promotional vehicle--pulled up to James H. Cox Elementary School on Thursday to announce that student Jason Takahashi, 8, had won a nationwide contest for singing the product’s jingle for a video crew in a supermarket here.

The third-grader’s rendition of “I Wish I Was an Oscar Mayer Weiner” put him in the company of 20 nationwide winners among 50,000 contestants.

“I am very excited,” he said while lunching in the roving frank. “I never thought this would happen.”

Jason won a family vacation to Orlando, Fla., a basket of “Wienermobilia” and a congratulatory letter from an executive vice president at Oscar Mayer Foods, a division of Kraft Foods Inc.

The 20 winners will compete for the national title and a chance at a role in a TV commercial.
