Day Leads Large Pack in Ojai Cross-Country

Quartz Hill High senior Danielle Day covered the three-mile course at Lake Casitas in 18:35 to win the girls’ large schools race in the Ojai High School Cross-Country Invitational on Saturday.
Senior Elaine Canchola of Nordhoff clocked 18:41 to capture the small schools crown.
Day was followed by San Marcos junior Robin Scott in 18:47 and Royal freshman Jaclyn Pedersen at 19:10. Krya Patterson of San Luis Obispo finished second to Canchola in 19:11.
In the boys’ large schools race, Saugus runners took three of the top five places, with John Getskow third in 16:17, Daniel Klawer fourth in 16:27 and Jacob Boeding fifth in 16:28.
Nordhoff senior Victor Ochoa was second in the boys’ small school race in 15:38.
Woodbridge Invitational--Agoura runners took three of the top 10 places to capture the sophomore boys’ Division II team championship.
Jeremy Law was fifth in 16:28 on the three-mile course, Mike Berns was sixth in 16:28, and Evan Pearlman was 10th in 16:41.
Hoover was seventh in the Division II sophomore boys’ race, bolstered by a fourth-place finish by Ivan Alvarado in 16:24.
In the senior boys’ Division II race, Jamal Balouch of Hoover was sixth in 15:24, and teammate Isabel Casillas was eighth in 15:42.
In the Division II varsity girls’ race, Brooke Cockrell finished ninth in 18:55 and Laura Jankowski was 11th in 19:11 to help Agoura finish ninth.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Thacher 11, St. Bonaventure 7--Freshman Breanne Henkelman swept three singles sets but the Seraphs lost at Thacher.
Sophomore Catherine McVerry won two of three sets for St. Bonaventure.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Rosary d. Highland, 15-9, 7-15, 16-14--Josie Wilson had 13 kills but the Bulldogs lost in the final of the Edison tournament. Kisha Stevens had 11 digs for Highland.
Cerritos Valley Christian 15, La Canada 1--The Spartans fell in the semifinals of the Mayfair tournament and tied for third place.
Emily Dalbeck made the all-tournament team for La Canada, which defeated Paramount, 15-8, in the quarterfinals.
Brentwood 15, Notre Dame 9--Melanie Reyes and Tifany Franzini were named to the all-tournament team but the Knights lost in the championship match of the Westside tournament.
The Knights defeated Cantwell Sacred Heart, 15-9, in the semifinals.
WATER POLO
Harvard-Westlake 11, Santa Margarita 2--Phil Spataru scored three goals and most valuable player Brendan Connolly made 11 saves, and the Wolverines won the Millikan tournament.
Harvard-Westlake (8-0) beat Los Alamitos, 5-4, in the semifinals.
