NAACP Accuses Globe of Unfairness

From Times Wire Reports

The Boston branch of the NAACP accused the Boston Globe of practicing a double standard for only suspending white columnist Mike Barnicle weeks after forcing out a black female columnist. The Globe first suspended Barnicle, then asked for his resignation after it was revealed that one of his columns contained unattributed quotes from a comedian’s book. Barnicle refused to resign, and the paper agreed to let him stay after he serves a two-month suspension without pay. The decision to let Barnicle keep his job disregarded readers who expected equal punishment, the NAACP said in a statement.
