Bomb Threat Closes Border Crossing

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. — The busy border crossing between San Diego and Tijuana was shut down for about two hours Wednesday because of a bomb threat.
Several sweeps of the U.S. facility turned up nothing, said a U.S. Customs Service spokesman.
Tijuana police received the threat at 7:50 a.m. and notified Mexican border authorities, who notified their U.S. counterparts. Vehicle and pedestrian traffic was halted and the U.S. facility was evacuated.
About 9 a.m. the southbound traffic lanes were opened, but they were later closed again while a bomb squad removed a lunch container that had been found unattended. It turned out to be empty.
The crossing was opened again by 10:30 a.m.
