Audette Traded to the Kings

The Kings acquired forward Donald Audette, who had been holding out this season, in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres on Friday.

Audette had asked to be traded nearly two months ago. He was the Sabres’ No. 3 scorer last year and had spent this season working out on his own and watching the team on television.

The Kings got Audette for a second-round draft choice. They offered him a two-year deal worth $3.6 million, according to Audette.

“It feels great,” said Audette, whose negotiations with the Sabres ended in bitterness. Of the struggling Kings, Audette said, “I think they’re a better team than they show.”

Last season, Audette led the team in goals with 24 and in game-winning goals with five, and was third in points with 44. Audette said the problem wasn’t money but terms of the contract, when he asked for the trade in November.
