* Story line: The Jets can clinch their first AFC East title with a win. But the game probably means more to the Bills, who can lock up a playoff spot nobody expected of them and complete a remarkable turnaround from an 0-3 start. The Jets beat the Bills, 34-12, last month at the Meadowlands--one of only two losses for the Bills in their last 11 games--but the Bills’ quarterback, Doug Flutie, is unbeaten at home. Is Flutie the NFL’s comeback player of the year? Or is it the Jets’ Vinny Testaverde? Either is a good choice.

TAMPA BAY at WASHINGTON

* TV: Channel 11.

* Records: Buccaneers 7-7, Redskins 5-9.

* Story line: The Buccaneers have played themselves back into playoff contention by winning their last three games, but they’re 1-5 on the road and praying for unseasonably warm weather in the nation’s capital. They’ve never won a game when the temperature was below 40 degrees. The resurgent Redskins, meanwhile, have won four of their last five games and seem to have found a reliable quarterback in Trent Green, who has passed for 12 touchdowns, with only two interceptions, in the last five games.
