Pakistan, India Expel Diplomats Over Spy Claims

NEW DELHI — India and Pakistan have each expelled a diplomat for alleged espionage, an Indian Foreign Ministry official said Saturday.
On Friday, India asked Pakistan to withdraw an embassy staffer for “activities incompatible with his status,” and Islamabad responded by expelling an Indian Embassy official on Saturday, the official said.
“They have expelled one of our personnel today; this is obvious retaliation and unjustified,” the Indian official said.
The new round of expulsions by the archfoes was the third this year.
India and Pakistan resumed peace talks in October, their first since both carried out nuclear tests in May, heightening tension in South Asia.
The next round of talks is due in New Delhi in February.
