South County Safe Rides is seeking adult volunteers, 25 and older, to run the base operation for its program in which teenagers give other teenagers confidential rides home on Friday and Saturday nights. Teens may call (800) 273-RIDE from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. if they or their friends have been drinking and need a ride home.

This year, about 240 teenagers have given more than 400 rides to potential drunk drivers. Program officials said they will not provide service Thursday, because many volunteers have indicated that most teens make plans to avoid driving on New Year’s Eve. Information: (949) 364-7754.
